About the Island of Guernsey.

Guernsey is 60 miles south west of England, about 26 west of Northern France, 21 miles from Jersey, 11 miles from Alderney, and 9 from Sark. It is about 12 miles long, 9 miles wide and 30 in circumference. It covers an area of 50 square miles or 32,000 square acres and is divided into 10 parishes.

The parishes of Guernsey
are as follows:

St.Peter Port, St.Sampsons, Vale, Castel, St.Saviours, St.Peters in the Wood, Torteval, Forest, St.Martins and St.Andrews.
The Bailiwick also includes the Islands of Herm , Sark and Alderney.

Alderney is the most northern of the Channel Islands, 8 miles from France and the closest of the islands to England. Around the coastline of Alderney lie many shipwrecks which are well-documented. Guernsey Hotel and Tourism Association

Herm is an island just off St Peter Port in Guernsey, about 20 minutes by the regular ferry service. It is one-and-a-half miles long by half a mile wide and boasts sheer cliffs to the south and beautiful white sand beaches around the north.

Sark lies nearly eight miles east of Guernsey. Access is by sea as there is no airport on Sark. Indeed no vehicular traffic except tractors are allowed. One arrives at the bottom of Harbour Hill and then can be taken up by tractor.

Whilst Guernsey is usually the hottest spot in the British Isles during the summer, it can get very cool in the evening, yet even on autumn and winter days, you will not find it as cold here, as you would at home. All the major UK clearing banks are represented on the island and there are additional cash points available at some service stations and at the Airport.

As a tourist resort Guernsey has grown steadily in popularity since World War II, but the authorities have been watchful to see that the island does not become too commercialised. All hotel, guest house and self-catering accommodation is officially registered and inspected and graded annually. Guernsey was a pioneer of hotel grading in the British Isles, adopting its own "Crown" system and this policy has helped to develop tourism into an industry worth in the region of £100 million per year.
